How to use the PhD Project Planner

Keep track of your ideas, arguments and plans as the project evolves by updating the Thesis Title and Chapter Titles.

Right Click on the word count table [Object – Edit] and update the chapter word count when you’ve been working on the chapter. the total word count will update automatically to show you how far you are towards your goal.

On the project timeline, make a note of the broad goal for each chapter in each term. Don’t worry if a chapter is ‘parked’ for a few terms, you can plan ahead to work out when this chapter gets to be the focus of attention. Use phrases such as ‘outline’, ‘develop’ or ‘edit’ to more accurately describe the process that suits you. Don’t be afraid to jump between chapters if that suits your work style.

Keep track of the project output in the sections on preparation and completion of papers and presentations.

In the weekly log, keep track of each task so that you gain confidence in using your time effectively. Some task don’t have a clear output so this can be really useful during the development and research phases of your project. Don’t forget to mark out which weeks are unavaiable – you might be on holiday or working on something else.
